....As Historic Consensus Opens New Chapter of Peace and Development in Warri
In a significant development for the Warri Federal Constituency, Engr. Jude Gbaboyor has expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for their leadership and unwavering commitment to fostering peace, unity, and stability among the Itsekiri, Ijaw, and Urhobo communities.
Speaking on the recent high-level meeting held in Abuja, Gbaboyor highlighted that the intervention by both leaders successfully brought together representatives of the three major ethnic groups to address the longstanding issues surrounding ward delineation—a topic that has historically been a source of tension and debate.
“Dialogue, consultation, and inclusiveness are the most effective pathways to resolving complex issues,” Gbaboyor stated, emphasizing that the Abuja engagement provided a platform for open, honest discussions and reaffirmed a collective commitment to peaceful coexistence and development.
Ward delineation, Gbaboyor noted, has been a sensitive subject for years, rooted in history, identity, and political representation. The disagreements have, at times, created friction among communities that have coexisted for generations. However, the recent accord signals a turning point, demonstrating that constructive engagement can overcome longstanding disputes.
Following extensive consultations, representatives agreed on the composition of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency as follows: Warri South—Ijaw (3), Itsekiri (8), Urhobo (9); Warri North—Ijaw (10), Itsekiri (10); and Warri South West—Ijaw (11), Itsekiri (9).
Gbaboyor praised the arrangement, highlighting that it reflects a shared understanding that sustainable peace can only be achieved when every community feels recognized, respected, and adequately represented. He also emphasized that political offices in Warri North and Warri South West will be rotated among the ethnic groups to ensure inclusiveness and fairness in governance.
“This agreement is not merely a political settlement,” Gbaboyor explained, “but the beginning of a new chapter of cooperation and mutual understanding among the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo people.”
He called on all stakeholders—including community leaders, youth groups, women’s organizations, and political actors—to embrace reconciliation and continue promoting peace, unity, and collaboration across the constituency.
According to Gbaboyor, the renewed spirit of cooperation provides an opportunity for Warri to regain its economic prominence, attract investment, create job opportunities, and drive sustainable infrastructural and human capital development.
He concluded by urging all communities to see the agreement as a symbol of dialogue, unity, and mutual respect, stressing that it paves the way for a more prosperous and harmonious future for the people of Warri.
Engr. Jude Gbaboyor’s message underscores the potential of leadership, dialogue, and inclusiveness to transform historical challenges into lasting solutions for peace and development.
